I don’t think I am a writer, chef, or tech person so it is odd to be sitting here week after week doing all these things that don’t seem like me. But if you want to know a little bit about the person behind the website, keep reading.

Did you think of “The Greatest Showman” too when you read, ‘This is me’? I really love that movie and if you haven’t seen it yet, I highly suggest it.

Have you ever sat down to write everything and anything about yourself?

I recently was asked to write down 8 words that define me. Just 8… but you would have thought I was asked to write a novel about myself. After a realization that I was overthinking it, words slowly started to come.

  • Quiet
  • Reserved
  • Listener
  • Animal lover
  • Dependable
  • Emotional
  • Neat (I like things organized)

But I am more than these 8 words.

Who is Leah from Living On Roots?

I come into your inbox every week with a variety of recipes, tips, stories, and random facts but I don’t write much about myself.

I am one of those people who just prefer others talk and I listen (see above… listener).

Right now I am going to write about me. I’ll make it quick before I change my mind.

Favorite foods

Buddha Bowls, Sweet potato tacos, and brownies are just a few of my favorite foods
All gluten free and dairy free, of course

Favorite music

  • Variety really; some rock, some hip-hop, some country, some oldies
  • I love Patsy Cline… really like this song
  • Know all the songs from The Judds – and am teaching my kids to love The Judds as much as I can
  • No jazz music though – that just puts me to sleep
  • Masterpiece from Jesse J motivates me like no other
  • AND if I need to smile and sing really loud, I will play this song

Favorite color(s)

  • Purple; all shades!
  • Teal is a close second

Random stuff

  • I don’t cuss – ever. If you hear a bad word come out of me, something is seriously wrong
  • I used to teach Jazzercise. I taught for 7 years before resigning… it was and still is to this day, the best workout I have ever done
  • I love cats more than dogs
  • Please don’t ask me to drive anywhere when it rains
  • Spiders of any size are one of my biggest fears
  • Well, that and open water. I don’t swim in oceans, lakes, or rivers for fear of what I cannot see below me
  • I want to write a cookbook one day
  • In college I wanted to be a veterinarian until I realized I would have to pass chemistry. That one class changed my whole mind.
  • I really like Tom Cruise

How did this blog come about?

My husband and I actually started a blog together a while back. It was called learned by us dot com and we shared things we were learning as we traveled with kids, raised kids, and basically learning how to navigate our married life.

Looking back now, that ‘blog’ was just a learning tool for Living On Roots. It taught my husband all about the tech side, it taught me how to use social media as a tool for sharing, and it taught both of us how to run a business together.

Somewhere along the line my love for nutrition grew – and it grew fast! I started thinking about how I can share the info I was learning with more people. Learned by us took on a new name and a revamped website. I am still learning every single day a year later!

We are a military family

My husband is in the military and we have done a few across the country moves but have managed to stay in San Diego, CA for 6 years now! What a blessing that is as we were moving every three years with one spot being there for only 18 months.

We love to take our kids traveling and have been able to see some amazing places.

Thank you for being a part of this community and checking in to see what I have shared.

Thank you for reading my thoughts each week.

Thank you for attempting my recipes.

You ROCK and I love being a part of your healthy journey!

always rooting for you, living on roots

I challenge you to write down 8 words that define you. Can you do it?
