Thanksgiving, a day of gratitude and oftentimes – family or friend gatherings, is right around the corner. It’s a time when we come together to celebrate and share a meal. However, for those who follow a plant-based diet, the traditional turkey-centric feast may pose a challenge. BUT I am here to tell you that with a little bit of planning and mindset, you can enjoy a satisfying plant-based Thanksgiving meal. Here are some tips to make your plant-based Thanksgiving enjoyable and memorable along with some of my favorite dishes you can bring to the gathering.

Bring Foods You Love

One of the best ways to enjoy a plant-based Thanksgiving is to bring foods you love to eat. I know that sounds obvious but don’t assume there will be options there for you. Below are my favorite dishes you can bring. OH, and if you are unsure about the space available in the kitchen, opt for dishes that can be prepared ahead of time and reheated if necessary. Grilled veggies are also a great choice as the grill tends to go unused on Thanksgiving. They are easy to prepare, delicious, and can be cooked in large batches.

These are my favorite dishes:

Bring Your Own Dessert

While traditional Thanksgiving desserts like pumpkin and apple pie are delicious to some, they are not always made without dairy. One way to ensure that you can partake in the dessert is to bring your own. I made this last year and really enjoyed it! Choose a dessert that you know is delicious and others will love. There are numerous plant-based dessert recipes available online, from apple pies to chocolate cakes, all made without any animal products.

Be Flexible and Open-Minded

Adopting a plant-based diet does not mean you have to miss out on Thanksgiving traditions. It simply means that your Thanksgiving food might look a little different. Be flexible with the day and go into it with an open mind. Instead of the traditional turkey, you might have a stuffed squash or a lentil loaf. The important thing is to enjoy the food and the company of the people around you. Remember, Thanksgiving is about gratitude, not just the food.

Focus on Friends and Family

Finally, remember to keep your focus on the friends and family around the table. Thanksgiving is a time to express gratitude and connect with loved ones. The food is just a means to facilitate that. So, whether you are enjoying a plant-based meal or a traditional one, the most important thing is to be present with those around you. Enjoy the laughter, the stories, and the love that fills the room. After all, these are the moments that truly make Thanksgiving special.

With a little bit of planning, flexibility, and a focus on the people around you, you can have a delightful and memorable plant-based Thanksgiving. Enjoy the feast!
